Britishness and Snail Mail

Even if we would hardly need any more evidence that Iron Maiden is an embodiment as well as an icon of British culture, Maiden have indeed been immortalised by a British institution. And no other than the Royal Mail. The theme of the January 2023 collectible stamps is *drum roll* …you guess it … Iron Maiden. Being immortalised in the national postal service puts Maiden next to all things ultimately British.

The fact that some of the collectibles were sold out in less than twenty-four hours, next to my suspicion that this would not happen if the topic was, let’s say, Shakespeare, makes me wonder how people judge which art is representative of British culture and which is not. Probably this system should be revalued. And then mailed out. With respective stamps of course.
